B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering for Diploma Engineers
Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a fundamental branch of engineering and its importance is increasing day by day in Bangladesh. All aspects of business, from research and development to production, marketing and sales, benefit from the rapid advances in technology related to electrical and electronic engineering. Continuing advances in electronic technology, personal and mobile communications, media compression and seamless connectivity between equipment’s also enhance our social lives, entertainment and education. The field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has advanced a lot in recent years. In our country both diploma and degree programs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering arc available. But the diploma program is not so advanced. Hence it will be much beneficial for the country, if diploma holders in Electrical and Electronic Engineering pursue B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering program offered by BURT exclusively for Diploma Engineers.
B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at BURT is a Four-year full time program consisting of 12 (twelve) regular semesters having 4 (four) months in each semester. Students will be required to do courses of 154.5 credits consisting of 126.0 theory credits and 28.50 lab credits. But the Diploma Engineers in Electrical Technology or Electronic Technology or in any other Engineering Disciplines will get waiver from the total credit requirements. After getting this waiver they need to complete 127.50 credits consisting of 96 theory credits, 25.5 lab credits and 6 project credits in 10 Semesters. Course waiver for the Diploma holders in Electrical Technology and Electronic Technology will be given for the course/ courses that the students have already passed in their Diploma with a grade point of 3.00 or above. But the course waiver for the Diploma holders in other Engineering Disciplines will be given only for the course/courses that are relevant to the Program and with a grade point of 3.00 or above. Semesters student do a project under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.
Credit hours have been based on the number of hours of theory lectures that need to be delivered in a week. Three-hour lecture per week throughout the semester means 3 credit hours. Electrical and Electronic Engineering Courses that require laboratory work include 3 hours of practical work each week. Three-hour laboratory work per week throughout the semester means 1.5 credit hours
Courses of this Program are divided into six types: i) English ii) General Education iii) Basic Science iv) Interdisciplinary Engineering Courses v) Program Core vi) Elective Courses. The elective courses are designed to give the students advanced knowledge leading to immediate industrial application and research in the chosen field. The elective courses are offered under four group.
- Electronics Group
- Communication Group
- Computer Group
- Power Group
The elective courses are offered in seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth semesters. A student must take seven elective courses out of which four from his/her chosen group and three from other groups.
Count load may vary depending upon the credits taken by the students in a semester. In the last three semesters students do a project under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.
